CANbus wiring was originally designed by Bosch to link electrical control systems together to form a network of information around the vehicle. CANbus is replacing the conventional wiring as it is less bulky and offers manufacturers a cost saving on running copper wire throughout a vehicle, however this does make it increasingly difficult for the towbar industry to work with these modern vehicle systems.

 

The solution is to use a Universal CANbus Module interface which takes trailer / caravan lighting circuit signals directly from the vehicle’s CANbus. These signals are then used to activate the coils in a bypass relay to operate the road lights on a trailer or caravan. The module reads the data on the CANbus and does not take any simulated voltages from the management system so cannot affect or harm the vehicle's electronics.

The ICB-7 vehicle specific CANbus module takes the trailer lighting circuit signals from the vehicle’s CAN.  These signals are used to drive your 7way bypass relay to operate the road lights on a trailer or caravan.  The module reads the data on the CAN and does not try to take any voltages from the vehicles lighting harness.
